Step 1: Check Your Mail

Registered voters should receive a ballot in the mail starting on October 14th.

If you received your ballot, you’re ready for Step 2! Never received your ballot? Misplaced your ballot? Request a replacement by calling or visiting your county elections office.

Step 2: It’s Time to Vote

Open the envelope containing your ballot and fill out your choices on both sides of the ballot. Need help? The Secretary of State's six-step guide is available in English, Spanish, Russian, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Vietnamese.

Step 3: Sign and Return Your Ballot

Put your ballot in the return envelope and sign the back of the envelope. No stamp needed! There are two ways to return your ballot:

Option 1: Drop it off by 8 pm on Tuesday, November 3rd.
Return your signed ballot to an official drop box or your county elections office. You can drop off your ballot at any location across the state.

Option 2: Mail it by Tuesday, October 27th.
Put your signed ballot in the mail from home or a blue USPS box no later than October 27th. Your ballot must be postmarked by Election Day to count, and mail isn't always postmarked the day you drop it in a mailbox, so mailing early is the safest choice.

Important: After October 27th, use a drop box or elections office. You can also go to a post office and ask the person at the counter to hand postmark your ballot for free. Just say, "I'm here to get my ballot hand postmarked."

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why do I need to mail my ballot so early in order for it to be postmarked by Election Day?
Your ballot must be postmarked (an official step taken by the post office) by Election Day to count. However, due to a process change during this Trump administration, ballots are not always postmarked the day you drop them in a mailbox. This change, in addition to years of underfunding our USPS, have made mail delivery times less predictable.
